Many of you have probably heard the song by Casting Crowns called “Broken Together.”  I just heard it for the first time last week.  I usually listen to music on my iPod so I’m not current on music in general.  The song is really about the marriage relationship but it made me think of relationships in general.  As people, we are all broken and have been since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden.

This past Saturday I had two very different (yet also very similar) opportunities to share and fellowship with other ladies.  The first was our leaders Share Day for BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).  We had an opportunity to share what we have learned in our study on the Life of Moses.  We shared principles, lessons, attributes of God, and various ways we’ve grown both in our faith and in our leadership.  But as I thought about each leader ahead of time, what has been most valuable to me is the opportunity throughout the year to share our brokenness with one another.  In the span of 30 weeks everyone had something; death, sickness, relationship struggles, loss.  However, not all of us had all of them all of the time.  So, we also had opportunities to encourage each other with God’s faithfulness and kindness.  Each week there was a truth that we learned that we could apply to our most recent hurt or struggle.  That, my friends, is how it is supposed to be in the family of God.

The next opportunity I had was at a ladies brunch for our church.  We began with wonderful food and fellowship.  Then we heard from two amazing ladies who shared from their hearts how they have seen God working in their lives.  Two very different stories; the same amazing Savior.  One was a young Mom sharing about her unique family and how they got to where they are today; the other a sweet grandma who is battling cancer.  She always has a smile and is more concerned about you then her own pain.   Both stories were painful yet hopeful because they have chosen to put their trust and hope in the One who gives them new mercy every morning.

I will close with the passage that was shared by the dear lady battling cancer because it is one of my favorites as well:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.'”

Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV emphasis mine

What a blessing that I can be just a small part in these stories as we are broken–together.

Have a great day!
