It would be difficult to put into words the gamut and depth of emotions that I experienced last week. I’ve been wondering what I would write about specifically simply because there is so much.
Then in church yesterday we sang “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” another one of my favorite hymns. I talked to my Mom last night and she said they sang it in church yesterday as well. This reminded us of singing it at my sister’s wedding almost one year ago.
I realized as I was singing the hymn yesterday that all of my emotions and lessons learned boiled down to one thing—God’s faithfulness. Yes, there are many other characteristics that come to mind such as His comfort, His tenderness, His enabling of those He has called, His Sovereignty, His peace and His presence. But, oh, His faithfulness—so amazing!
“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is based on the following verses:
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 (English Standard Version).
The author of the Book of Lamentations is not named in the book but most believe it was written by Jeremiah the prophet. It is basically his laments or his expressions of deep sorrow. But right in the middle are these wonderful verses that give such hope.
I will close with the third verse and chorus of the hymn:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside.
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
May you experience God’s faithfulness in a tangible way this day.
Have a great day!
