As I’ve mentioned before, music is very important to me. Last night I was sitting on the deck journaling some recent events when this song began on my iPod. It’s called “Greater Than We Can Imagine” from the Psalms CD by Sovereign Grace Music. It’s based on Psalm 145 written by David as a Psalm of praise. How appropriate for me to hear this because I was struggling with the words to write in gratitude to the Lord for all that He has shown me over the last few weeks.
I had recently become discouraged in a couple of areas of ministry that I lead. Various things happened and I was unmotivated to continue. Then I had upcoming responsibilities that were overwhelming me. I prayed about these situations and asked for prayer from others. My prayers were answered immediately and my schedule opened up so that I could complete what God had called me to do. I also received encouragement from someone very unexpectedly—just when I needed it most.
I spent a lot of the weekend marveling at the faithfulness of God. How could the God of the Universe care so much for me that He would work out every detail of my struggle. But He did!! Do you know why? Because He loves me….and He loves you also. This reality is truly greater than we/I can imagine. It really is overwhelming to comprehend that these things didn’t just work out on their own….it didn’t “just happen”….it wasn’t luck. God cares about the details!
“I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name forever and ever.Every day I will praise you
and extol your name forever and ever.Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.”Psalm 145:1-3 NIV
I encourage you to read all of Psalm 145 on your own. The Psalms are an excellent resource to use in your prayer time. If you get stuck on how to praise or thank God, pray one of the appropriate Psalms. If you’re not sure which ones are appropriate, many Bibles have titles that say, for example, “A Psalm of Praise. Of David.” The most important thing is to spend the time with God developing the relationship that He wants to have with you. Are you willing to spend that time? It will be well worth your while!
Have a great day!
