[Webmaster Note: This Musing was sent on Melanie’s last day at PHFS where she worked for 10 years and started sending out devotionals that was the basis for beginning this blog. Melanie will continue with the blog as she begins her new opportunity. Here is her entry in full: ]

______________________________________

In lieu of a typical farewell email I thought it might be appropriate to send one last “official” Musing on my last day at PHFS.  I plan to continue to write and update my blog so check it out now and then if you are interested (www.musingsbymelnie.dev/blog).

I have had an opportunity over the last couple of weeks to reflect on my 10 years here.  There have been ups and downs, joys and trials—just like any aspect of life.  There have been trials that made me wonder if I should continue.  But I’m so thankful that I did not run away when I reflect on the joys and blessings that I have received.

This verse came to mind:

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33 ESV (Jesus speaking)

Each trial taught me something that prepared me professionally for the opportunity I’m about to pursue.  But let me get a little more personal.  If I would have given up, here are a few things I would have missed:

  • The joy of working with and shepherding the best team ever and seeing them grow both personally and professionally
  • The silliness of daily conversations over confusing words and phrases
  • The opportunity to work for 2 years with the best manager ever!
  • Hearing of lives being changed in those we serve
  • Driving into this beautiful campus each day
  • All the Fun days, especially the ones where I won something (like being on the #1 team this year on the scavenger hunt and winning the award for using the most “M”’s) and, of course, the go-karts
  • Forming deep, lasting friendships that will continue long past this day

After 10 years, this transition will not be an easy one.  This is my longest tenure so far and, being numbers minded, I figured out that I have worked here for over 20% of my life!  I have been challenged and stretched but, through much prayer and perseverance, I have grown professionally, personally and spiritually.

Those of you who work directly with our clients on the front line, as well as those of you who work behind the scenes, are making a difference.  Continue to do that for as long as the Lord tells you.

As for you, brothers {and sisters}, do not grow weary in doing good.”  2 Thessalonians 3:13 ESV

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”  Colossians 3:23-24 ESV

Know that you all will continue to be in my prayers.  I will close with the benediction Paul used in his second letter to the Thessalonians:

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”  2 Thessalonians 3:16 ESV

For His Glory,

Melanie
