A good friend of mine is moving away at the end of this week. I’ve known it was coming, probably since I met her due to the fact that her move to the area was meant to be temporary. I’ve only known her about a year but she’s one of those people that “clicked” right away. Neither of us is especially outgoing but the conversations have always been easy, the company always enjoyed. We laugh about our introverted natures and the need for planning…..well in advance. We have also been able to share our hearts and struggles with one another.  It’s so nice when someone “gets” you.

Her first Sunday at our church, I worked in the nursery. I was standing near the door when she brought her daughter in. I could tell she was hesitant (both of them!). Sure enough the precious little girl cried when Mommy left but she soon settled down and I had a new little friend. I basically held her the entire time and we bonded. Since then she’s always been present at our lunch dates. I will miss her, too.

It’s interesting how some people pass through your life so quickly yet leave such a mark. She’s not moving very far away but I’m realistic enough to know that it won’t be the same. Thankfully, there are many ways we can stay in touch.

So, while my heart is heavy, I know she is doing the right thing. I’m so proud of her for doing the right thing even when it’s not the easiest or most desired thing. I’m also thankful for the time I have known her and very thankful that she is my friend. But even more, I’m thankful she is my Sister. That is a bond that cannot be broken. And even if our time together here on earth is infrequent, we can look forward to spending eternity together in the presence of our Savior. There will be no need for shared tears, only joy.

I will close with the benediction from the writer of Hebrews:

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21

Have a great day!
