Here are a few quotes I read recently under the heading “Bumper Sticker Wisdom”:

· A day without sunshine is like night.

· He who laughs last thinks slowest.

· For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.

· Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

There were a lot more but these were some of my favorites.  Since the last one talks about eagles, it made me think of a favorite passage during my study of Isaiah.

“Have you not known?  Have you not heard?  The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.  He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV

I find this much more encouraging than getting sucked into a jet engine!

Are there circumstances in your life that leave you feeling faint and weary?  With the pace of life for most of us I can almost bet that this describes a good percentage of those reading this today.  When we get to this point we may resemble weasels more than eagles, too.

Pay attention to what Isaiah is telling God’s people.  The Lord does not faint or grow weary and He understands us more than we can comprehend.  It is the Lord who has the power and desire to renew our strength when we trust in Him.

The hard part in these verses, though, is where it says to “wait”.  We are busy….how can we wait?  And if we do slow down long enough to listen to Lord, we fall asleep!  No wonder we are weary and faint!

So where do you get your strength?  Is it from spending time with family or people you love?  Maybe you need to “recharge” by spending time alone.  It could even be from something external like caffeine or chocolate.  While there is nothing wrong with any of those things, it’s important to remember Who ultimately renews our strength.

God wants all of us not just our leftovers.  In order to be strengthened we need to depend on Him.  This means spending regular time with Him in prayer and reading His word.  It could also mean praising Him in song both privately and publically.  Find either someone or a group with whom you can share what you are learning.

May God strengthen you as you wait on Him.  After all, who wants to be a weasel?

Have a great day!
