My husband Bob and I spent the last week at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. It is run by the Von Trapp family made famous by the movie The Sound of Music. It is virtually impossible to walk the grounds and not break out in singing “The Hills Are Alive” (which I did a couple of times much to Bob’s chagrin!). The view is outstanding and their slogan is “A little bit of Austria, a lot of Vermont”.
This is our third visit to Stowe and the Lodge. The town and resort are both very peaceful and relaxing. I imagine the town will be hopping in about a month when ski season picks up. We learned that the locals refer to this as “stick season” – post-foliage, pre-ski season. This is perfect for us basically because of the lack of crowds.
Another song from The Sound of Music is “My Favorite Things”. Here is an attempt at my version:
Leaves in the Autumn and coffee when chilly
Time with my Sweetie and just being silly
Sweaters to snuggle while waiting for Spring
These are a few of my favorite things.Time with my family and moments of laughing
Baking and walking can both make me happy
Time spent in Scripture with praises to sing
These are a few of my favorite things. When the pain comes
When I’m stressing
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Well, maybe I should leave the song writing/poetry to someone else!
Anyway, my intent here is to focus on gratitude and being thankful. This is not just a general thankfulness but thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (English Standard Version)
May your attitude today be one of gratitude and thankfulness. It will change your entire outlook and possibly the attitude of those around you.
Have a great day!
Melanie
