Last week I got a forwarded email from my husband. It had an odd subject line. When I opened the email he had written “start with my email below.” In that email he had the salutation “Hey Babe” and then he proceeded to tell me about his day, how his plans had changed and then suggested plans for the evening. He signed it “Love you Kiddo”. All very nice except that he had sent it to a man he works with! The reply—“I appreciate the offer Babe but I’m busy tonight!”
We have gotten some really good laughs out of that story and so have the people we’ve shared it with. We were just very thankful that the email was fairly innocuous.
I was thinking this morning that it’s a good thing that our prayers do not end up going to the wrong place. No matter where we are we have a good connection and we know that we will be heard by the One we intend to hear our prayers. In fact we don’t even have to speak the prayers for God to know our thoughts.
“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”
(Psalm 139:1-6 ESV emphasis added)
Read that last verse again—“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” It certainly is amazing that the God of the Universe knows me, knows my thought and cares about me. I don’t know about you but I receive great comfort in that knowledge.
In the hustle and bustle of this time of year may you also find comfort in that knowledge and rest in His perfect peace.
Have a great day!
